BAM: Frost's Resignation

MORTEN FROST HANSEN

KUALA LUMPUR 18 SEPT: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) accepted the resignation of its technical director, Morten Frost HANsen after consensus was reached during the Coaching and Training(CT) committee meeting. BAM president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria had received six month resignation notice from Frost.

After resignation from Frost known as "Mr.Badminton" his duties will be take over by head coaches, Datuk Misbun Sidek (Men Single), Cheah Soon Kit (Men's Double), Tey Seu Bock (Women's single), Wong Pei Ty (Women's Double), Chin Eei Hui (Mixed's Double). Before this,Frost, who joined Malaysia in Feb 2015 and had tied the contract until Dec 2020 had been under pressured due to the unimpressive results this year.

Following a successful 2016, Frost suffered a series of disappointing result this year namely at the world championship in Glasgow, the KUALA LUMPUR Sea Games (KL2017) last month and the Sudirman Cup in Gold Coast, Australia in May.

Asked whether BAM would continue to use Frost's  long-term sport development blueprint as a guide, Norza said the association would examine and discuss it further, adding that any plan set would be realistic in terms of achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) BAM could possibly issue a huge payout to Frost, who was said to have been earning as estimated US$20 000 (approximately RM84 000) per month

Norza said among other things discussed at the meeting was to review incentive packages given to coaches and players based on merit

In another development, Norza also announced that national men's doubles pair Goh V Shem - Tan Wee Kiong would be split and form two new pairing, whereby V Shem would partner Teo Ee Yi and Wee Kiong would pair with Ong Yew Sin. On whether Frost's target to win at the Thomas Cup as stated in BAM's blueprint for the year 2017-2020 would still materialize.
